Book is letterpress printed multi-color images from linoleum blocks with some hand coloring on Magnani Pescia paper; most pages are round with some shaped as urn, pitcher, or book, and attached to a concertina; covers are round and covered in blue book cloth with maiolica design on front. Plate is hand-painted in maiolica style; each design is unique. Blue gros-grain ribbon secures plate, board and book in box. Mare Blocker was the Sally R. Bishop Artist-in-Residence at the Center for Book Arts in 2001 and included a portrait of Sally R. Bishop on one of the pages. Limited edition of 50 copies. Colophon: "The invention of the printing press changed the design of maiolica pottery. Istoriato, story painting, began when potters started to copy prints of masterworks. I have always been interested in the influence of scientific innovation over art, and how a seemingly unrelated advance in one craft can change everything in another. This project was produced at the Center for Book Arts in New York City, with help from their interns."
