Savannah College of Art and Design Collections
The Hotel DeSoto (sometimes referred to as the DeSoto Hotel), an historic Savannah hotel for over 100 years, was first built on the site of the original Oglethorpe Barracks at the corner of Liberty and Bull streets in Savannah, Georgia in 1890. Designed by William Gibbons Preston in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, the original hotel was considered to be the height of luxury for its time. The hotel was demolished in 1966, and the Hilton Savannah DeSoto was erected on the same site by 1968.
The materials in the collection are largely undated, but range approximately from 1900 to 1960. The collection consists of brochures, envelopes, and a menu from the Hotel DeSoto, though the hotel can also be seen in other Savannah-related collections, like the Savannah Stereoview Collection and Savannah Postcard Collection.
