Description:
Each of the book's twelve hand-made lithographs is a montage of images culled from old archaeology, biology and medical textbooks. Image and text pages are interleaved with transparencies simulating archaeological strata and the anatomical overlays in biology textbooks. The book contains twelve hand-lithographed prints on hand-made Kitakata, Okawara and Goyu Japanese papers. These are tipped onto Rives paper and interleaved with images hand-printed on transparent mylar sheets that interact with both the montaged print and the en face page of poetic text. The twelve alternation text pages are hand-printed directly onto Rives paper to simulate chine collé. Kelly Driscoll of D2 Press lithographed the edition. Consists of four separate hand-sewn signatures in a hardboard portfolio designed and hand-made by Barbara Siegel in collaboration with Renée Rockoff. The portfolio is covered in light brown handmade Bhutan Tsasho paper inside, beige handmade Himalayan Khadi outside, with black silk cloth spines. On the front of each portfolio is a unique hand-printed paper plaque made by the artist. Limited edition of 30, signed by the author and artist.
