The building, originally designed to be both Post Office and Courthouse, is in the Second Renaissance Revival style. The original portion of the building is constructed of white Georgia marble, and features Italianate tripartite facade divisions. One of the most prominent characteristics of the building is the varied fenestration. Jeremiah O'Rourke is listed on the cornerstone as the architect. After the 1932 extension, the building took up an entire block overlooking Wright Square.
