Color postcard with linen texture, no border and divided back, postmarked August 22, 1950. Caption from the back: "Hotel Tybee, 150 rooms of perfect comfort, delightfully cooled by ocean breezes. Reasonable rates."
The Hotel Tybee was first built in 1886 and was one of the most sought after beach destinations of its time. Its success spurred rapid growth of what was then known as Savannah Beach. The beautiful Queen Anne hotel burned in 1909 and was replaced with the hotel in this postcard, which was considered fireproof. The hotel thrived but was outdated by 1960 and was torn down.
Colourpicture, operating between 1938 and 1969 in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, was a major publisher of the linen post cards in the United States. In the 1950s, they published photochromes under the name trade name Plastichrome.
