A Noted Vivisector is Greeted at the Pearly Gates by some of His Victims
Creator:
Wilder, Herbert Merrill, 1864-1915
Description:
Two page spread. John Ames Mitchell was an animal lover, especially dogs. At that time, medical tests were done on all animals, often dogs, and Mitchell was staunchly against it. Life often ran cartoons that took his viewpoint, and the magazine was often involved in lawsuits. But Mitchell did not back down and often was the winner of these conflicts. Life magazine covers were on a variety of topics. Each issue had a theme that was introduced by the cover and reflected throughout the issue.
