Title:
The Wild, Wild West
Creator:
Dart, Harry Grant, 1869-1938
Description:
Two page center spread. From the signage in the cartoon, it appears that Dart modeled his Wild West town on Deadwood, South Dakota. It was a town founded on the gold mining industry and rapidly became a small metropolitan area with a number of saloons, gambling establishments, and brothels, which were legal businesses until 1919. Life magazine covers were on a variety of topics. Each issue had a theme that was introduced by the cover and reflected throughout the issue. The theme of this issue was the "Wild West".
