This thesis tackles the topic of contemporary American satirical comedy. More
specifically, satire's potential for artistic and societal impact, a potentially evolving
American comedy audience, as well as the goals of the satirical television pilot, Shine
On Nineteen!. The aim of the paper is to justify satirical comedy as a powerful tool for
communicating a subversive, if not revolutionary message.
