Abstract:
"This thesis explores the integration of traditional Colombian aesthetics and contemporary production design techniques to redefine the portrayal of Colombia in visual media. Motivated by the persistent stereotypes associated with Colombian culture, the project reimagines Gabriel García Márquez's 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' as a film, focusing on the design of two key sets: José Arcadio Buendía's Alchemist Lab and the Gypsy Fair at Macondo. Through meticulous research into Spanish Colonial and Art Nouveau styles, combined with practical fabrication skills honed during my studies at SCAD, this project aims to present a more nuanced and positive image of Colombia. The practical component includes the creation of two tables and a lighting piece, showcasing the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with innovative design approaches. This work underscores the importance of cultural representation in production design and contributes to a broader understanding of Colombian heritage in the global media landscape." --Abstract
