Abstract:
“Studies have shown that a large percentage of older persons in China now wish to return to the workplace, for a variety of motives, including financial and spiritual. At the same time, as the degree of aging deepens, all sectors of Chinese society, including the government, enterprises, and children of the elderly, will be subject to the increasing economic pressure of aging, and in the future, more elderly people will begin to seek reemployment due to their own economic needs and the impetus of the community. The eastern region, as the first region to enter the serious population aging, will be the first to generate many elderly re-employment demand, so it is urgent to focus on the reemployment system of the elderly in the eastern region as well as the improvement of the program. However, existing secondary research has not been able to cover all aspects of the re-employment of older adults in the east China, lacking research on the segmentation, available resources, and problems, etc. Therefore, employing system thinking way of service design, this study systematically investigates the re-employment ecosystem of the elderly in east China through primary research (survey and in-depth interview), including the segmentation, resources, and stakeholders in the system, and utilizes the idle resources as well as engage in new stakeholders to rebuild the supporting system. After the survey, it was found that elderly with high willingness to be reemployed can be divided into four segments, among which the ordinary white-collar older people is valued most according to 4 criteria: willingness to be employed, difficulty in being employed, willingness to use the re-employment services and products, and the market size, and therefore, they have become the target segment of this research. After conducting in-depth interviews with ordinary white-collar seniors, it can be found that they encountered problems at all stages of their re-employment journey and the current supporting system is still far from perfect. Therefore, after sorting out the available resources, a new supporting system was reorganized and planned. This system will not only help some ordinary white-collars elderly and employers who are struggling with recruitment build connection currently but will also be applicable to the heavily aging society in the future and meet the needs of both the elderly and other stakeholders in the future.” –Abstract
