Abstract:
“African Mythology has been an ignored source of content in a market that reveres Greek Mythology. There’s an abundance of material that consistently meets reluctance due to it being non-Eurocentric and not surrounded on the basis of ‘the struggle’. Mythology has existed for as long as humanity, but unlike Greek or Norse mythology, African Mythology seems to have a subdued presence in ‘western’ pop culture. This paper will explore potential causes of this disparity through studying articles, journals, books, etc pertaining to oral tradition, Christian led crusades, and the long lasting effects of events such as colonialism and war. It appears that these disparities in treatment are rooted in the racism perpetuated by mass colonization, slavery, and assimilation.” –Abstract
