Abstract:
“The purpose of this study is to analyze the utilization of dynamic cameras and staging in 2D animation and how it drives audience engagement. In a medium where ‘show, don’t tell’ is golden, 2D animation have different elements that can be utilized to enhance the quality of a film and to engage the audience, often time, harmonizing with each other. Staging in animation directly grabs the focus of the audience and makes it clear what is happening especially in scenes intended for action and excitement. The usage of depth, perspective and posing can turn a scene that looks flat, and symmetric into a more dynamic scene often exaggerating perspective, scene transitions and flow of a sequence. By observing different animators and their approach to making dynamic scenes, and creating a short film utilizing a dynamic sequence, this thesis will present how dynamic camera and staging can maintain and drive the engagement of the audience.” –Abstract
