Abstract:
“This thesis will concentrate on the elements needed to create an art mannequin that is catered for conceptual creature design. An exploration of modular toy design reveals how modularity in an art mannequin is beneficial for both creative and educational purposes. The art mannequins produced by S.H. Figuarts, Stickybones, Armature Nine, and 3dtotal are analyzed for stylistic and mechanical approaches to creating a modular prototype. There will also be a discussion on the methodologies and key design principles of conceptual creature design and the importance that anatomical and environmental studies play in the development of a believable organism. These examinations are tied together with a focus on kitbashing and the correlations it shares with modular figures and the overall field of conceptual creature design.” –Abstract
