Abstract:
“This thesis will present a brief history of dark rides and a look at how they have evolved in the almost two hundred years since The Old Mill Ride, the first documented dark ride. Examples of the rising standards in dark ride designs and trends provided will be used to inform the concept design for the proposed immersive dark ride attraction in this thesis. ParaNorman and the Witch’s Curse, based on the film and book ParaNorman by Laika Studios, considers the guest experience from the moment they walk under the marquee to their last moments in the Blithe Hollow Woods. It is the intent of this thesis, and this design, to create a new dark ride attraction that could give guests the opportunity to immerse themselves beyond the current standard seen in theme parks today.” –Abstract
