Abstract:
“This dissertation explores the necessity of nostalgia and color therapy through the aesthetics and colors found in vaporwave, a micro-genre of 80s-90s inspired music, and how the art movement from it can be applied in animation through a color script. This article breaks down six colors present in animated media: violet, magenta, royal blue, yellow, cyan, and teal, and how they are seen in nostalgic vaporwave visuals. Exploration of vaporwave’s subgenres will be discussed in support of the success of therapy through color and nostalgic visuals. Throughout the article, the visual component is discussed how those colors and visuals will be represented through a color script. The success of the color script would open and encourage further study for other nostalgic micro-genres to be explored. Not all problems with the stressors of the Millennials will be solved, but this dissertation and application seeks to help alleviate and give a new alternative to cope with anxiety, stress, and depression through the visual artistry of
animation.” –Abstract
