Abstract:
“To ‘ride bitch’ means to sit in the middle seat or passenger on a motorcycle which is the most uncomfortable seat. It also means to act subordinate. Toxic masculinity is ingrained in society and impacts most people in negative ways. It has led to the view that men are meant to be dominant, aggressive, and emotionless while women are meant to be passive and dependent (The Blue Bench, 2023). Anyone who does not fit into these molds is shamed. The methodology used in this paper researches motorcycle subculture and workplace subculture to explore their history and point out that in both of these subcultures, women are made secondary and put in the bitch seat. The collection ‘Riding Bitch’ flips the toxic masculinity of these two subcultures to put the feminine women in the dominant role and the singular male look into the submissive role.” –Abstract
