Abstract:
“As one of the most influential industries in the world, the beauty industry generates a lot of plastic waste, which impacts the global environment and human health. Under the influence of internet development, cosmetics gradually evolve from a necessity to a fast fashion product, resulting in higher demand and purchasing frequency for makeup products. Generation Z (Gen Z), the group most influenced by the trend of fast beauty, has become a major buying force for cosmetics. At the same time, they are the generation that cares about sustainability most while purchasing makeup products. Therefore, the author commits to a solution to helping Gen Z reduce cosmetic packaging waste due to their demand for makeup variety through optimizing packaging design. This thesis research aims to explore the possibility of sustainable beauty packaging design and also investigates Gen Z’s deep demand for cosmetic products. The goal is to develop a unique and creative cosmetic design led by product design, which creates the product’s variety and changeability to achieve fashion trend chasing.” –Abstract
