Abstract:
"In this new era where audiences have endless amounts of films right at their fingertips, it seems a new phenomenon is happening with audiences as well. Films have not satisfied those seeking new stories. As in the past few years, box offices have only been carrying out remakes and sequels to all kinds of movies from all different decades. Best articulated in an article by the online magazine Variety, information editor Kaare Eriksen states that today's movie going experience is driven by: 'Box Office's Most Powerful Trend: Nostalgia.' But although they retell stories to keep beloved characters alive, it's causing disdain and boredom among its consumers, and filmmakers are aware of this. With new ideas being pushed aside and executives recycling the same old stories, the movie industry is in a cycle they cannot get out of. Despite becoming collaborators in the field (compared to old Hollywood studio films from the 1930s to the 1950s) filmmakers, specifically film editors, have yet to be completely trusted with their work, which ultimately results in the product being changed before it gets released to theaters and streaming services." -- Abstract
