Abstract:
“This Thesis explores the effects of black female representation and recognition in comics and media. For many black female characters portrayed under the influence of male/non-black creators, they tend to fall under the misrepresentation of non-natural beauty features or stereotypes. Black women creators tend to get less or no recognition for their work unlike their male/non-black counterparts in storytelling. This paper will help raise the awareness of proper black female representation and recognition by going over the histories of black women stereotypes, comic characters, film or tv adaptions, the effects of male/non-black creators, and black women comic creators.” –Abstract
