Abstract:
"This thesis will concentrate on analyzing the visual commonalities between the two Blade Runner and applying to my personal thesis film visual aspect. I argue that even though the two films were shot more than 30 years apart, and have different directors and directors of photography, the visual coherence is maintained because of Roger Deakins' contribution to the preproduction and lighting but also develop up to date Blade Runner style. Combined with the ASC filmmaker interviews and academic articles, the visual continuity and uniqueness of Roger Deakins' lighting, color, and tone interpretation in Blade Runner 2049 (2017) will be explained both in terms of preproduction and on-set lighting techniques. In my thesis film Chasing Fame, I will interpret and apply some Roger Deakins' lighting strategies in Blade Runner 2049 (2017) to enhance low budget student film visual creation." --Abstract
