Abstract:
"This thesis tracks my rehearsal and production process while utilizing physical acting techniques in preparation for my role of W in Duncan Macmillan's Lungs as performed at Front Porch Improv. Lungs is a two person play focusing on a single couple over a life span and is predicated on one question, "Should we have a baby?" The script requires no lighting, set, costumes or music, lending itself well to physical acting techniques. In order to craft an honest depiction of a complicated romantic relationship, I utilized physical techniques such as Chekhov's Psychological Gesture, intimacy choreography and American Sign Language to embrace the connection between the outward body and inner emotional life." --Abstract
