Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to educate the public on the importance of pursuing an active involvement in
the preservation and celebration of a culture that is rich and woven through our history and in doing so bring
prosperity to the community both financially and ritualistically, as new generations would be encouraged to
learn about their own heritage as a way of economic means, securing the lively hood of the Gullah Geechee
customs and traditions. It is through the planning and integration of the site, that those who visit the Museum
will feel how important the connection is within the community of Pinpoint, both human and environmental.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on how architecture can enhance and potentially save a culture from extinction while encouraging cross cultural
interaction through experiential site integration. The adaptive rehabilitation of existing structures that served to stimulate a community
economically for generations can bring new life to an area with a simple yet detailed introduction of a new architectural language.
It is in the Gullah Geechee past, present and future that the author found all the inspiration necessary to translate the rich history of
the culture into an architectural experience that will serve to educate the public and the younger members of the Gullah Geechee
community and in doing so keep the culture alive for future generations.
