Abstract:
"This thesis explores the claustrophobic craftsmanship of four generational filmmakers – Alfred Hitchcock, Mike Nichols, Kathryn Bigelow and Lenny Abrahamson. The primary focus is to highlight the execution of their most contained films and identify how each directorial style delivers resonate and primal viewing experiences. The aim is to analyze claustrophobic cinematography, blocking and production design that enhance each film's story and brings the audience closer into the world of the film. Furthermore, this thesis provides evidence that using and understanding claustrophobia is an important tool for any filmmaker's arsenal." --Abstract
