Abstract:
This thesis discusses the effective use of 2D puppets, also known as 2D rigs, to achieve naturalistic style animation in short and feature animated films. Furthermore, this paper will discuss how this workflow can be used in episodic shows to improve the cinematic quality of the animation. The first part discusses the effective application of 2D rig animation techniques in the animated short, Hair Love. The second part discusses how this hybrid workflow is applied in the thesis film, The Ocean Duck, to achieve a similar effect. -- Abstract
