Abstract:
"Domestic violence has always been a major issue on the global scale. The two television series from China and the United States including Do not Respond to Strangers and Big Little Lies (season 1), respectively reflect on this issue. Television series are a medium to reflect social phenomena and in these two TV series, the victims of domestic violence involve two different kinds of women. This study focuses on the similarities and differences between the two countries in terms of women's experiences with domestic violence through analysis and comparison of the television series. It has been found that women tend to primarily self-reflect and self-sacrifice while facing domestic violence. Thus, combined with the real-world cases, this reflects the real problems of numerous families in society. Based on this analysis, it is suggested that film and television dramas should guide the audience in the right direction." -- Abstract
