Abstract:
"This thesis looks to subvert digital production pipelines in the construction of two virtual installation art pieces. These installations, Trencher (Fig. 1) and Akira.Legion (Fig. 2), are described through multiple access points, taking a historical perspective on the evolution of computer graphics, and examining the unique aesthetics of generative computer graphics and early digital art. This thesis also explores contemporary installation art through a theoretical lens, looking at how Land Art, and the idea of sacred space, and monolithic installation art can be brought into the real-time rendered game environment. This thesis also analyzes the unique aesthetics of video games, and the concept of digitization and speaks to how this informs my installation work. Finally, this thesis details the production of the installations Trencher and Akira.Legion to the alpha stage for each prototype." -- Abstract
