Abstract:
This thesis focuses on providing a new way of looking at prison design in Colombia. Many countries in the world are facing prison overpopulation
problems including Colombia, where the thesis focuses on. The catalyst of this concerning problem is lack of successful rehabilitation to the prisoners
caused by inhumane and unhealthy conditions that could be prevented through design decisions. By applying a new way of thinking in prison design
as well as using technology and sustainability methods, the final design’s goal is to provide a more positive, healthy, and friendly environment for
the facility’s users, to help staff and inmates live a decent life inside these walls, in a way that it would ultimately positively impact society and prison
overpopulation in the future.
