Abstract:
The photographic body of work New Nature explores the reciprocal relationship
between art and nature by using a controlled means for exploring cultural understanding of
the natural. The ephemeral structures within the photographs are created using natural
objects and rudimentary materials. The assemblages trace movement and construct
spatial relationships, while the interaction of the materials speaks to the intertwinement of
the organic and the constructed. The backdrop functions as a hybrid studio-laboratory—a
blank canvas for examining the possibilities that may exist within the natural and mediated,
artistic realms. The concept of nature is both abstract and vast in its interpretation. This
photographic series serves as an attempt to address this uncertainty by creating a strange
logic.
