Abstract:
"The body of photographic and sculptural work, Simunition: Gun Culture in
America, examines gun culture in 21st century America. Guns have always been present
in America, yet current gun violence is becoming an epidemic. Humans are not killers by
nature, and only through intense conditioning have people been trained to kill. American
media has helped condition civilians to kill in similar ways and through the
desensitization towards violence in television, cinema, and video games. Our unhealthy
relationship with guns has superseded our desire to not kill our own species. Simunition:
Gun Culture in America explores these elements of society that have led to the gun
violence epidemic, and reframes the conversation on guns in America."
