Abstract:
“You Are Probably Not Here: An Historical Analysis of Public Manipulation Through the Mediums of Photography and Cartography” examines the images presented in the body of work, You Are Probably Not Here, as a reflection and continuation of the cultural history of inaccuracy in cartography and photography. Photography and cartography have similar inherent traits and have had comparable impacts on humanity throughout their history. Through the examination of maps and photographs over time, this thesis observes the variety of circumstances in which the two mediums have been utilized to influence public opinion.
