Abstract:
The Alchemist and Her Objects illustrates my view of the world as depicted in my
photography. I attempt to show how photography can, through my imagination, transform the
commonplace in order to cause it to exist not just in my mind’s eye, but for the viewer as well.
To put my work in perspective, I have examined the influence of other artists, comparing and
contrasting their style and choice of subject matter with my own. Through photographic imagery
and paint I move among the objects and their space to unveil what has always been there. My
work is grounded in the perception that our imagination can take us anywhere, and it is my hope
that the viewer will feel the same energy that I feel when taking a deeper look at the artwork and
everything it encompasses. I feel my job is to transform—or like the alchemist—unveil what has
always been there, but heretofore never been seen.
