Abstract:
"This thesis will examine the relationship between the storytelling principles of scripted television and how those same ideas and techniques are used to tell stories in live sports entertainment. Soap operas and live sports broadcasts use similar techniques to draw in audiences. Sports themed soap operas appeal to traditional sports fan and non-traditional sports fans alike. Both scripted narrative content and telecasts of live sporting events create heroes and villains from the characters that are playing out the action the field or on the screen. The relationship between the two is deep and could lead to highly successful projects that appeal to sports fans and fans of scripted content alike." --Abstract
