Abstract:
"This thesis will address the problem of workspace wellness through architectural interventions. Creating a holistic workspace environment to reduce stress, and fostering positive connections between people and the natural environment. Art, science, economics and healthcare are at its peak at any given time during the history of human civilization yet, around the world there is a common factor that none of us are addressing in the world of architecture and design. In these flourished times in human history, the way we are generating our urban workspaces is a hazard to the society. As the World Health Organization states that 'work is good for health, but a negative working environment can lead to physical and mental health problems.' This problem became evident to me when two years back I found out that I have a genetic blood condition, which has caused Deep Vein Thrombosis and Varicose veins at a young age. These issues set a fear inside about working in the modern workspaces as these issues increment with having a sedentary job. In 2019 the American Heart Association stated that sedentary jobs have increased by 83% since 1950. The economic foundations of our commercial urbanization in American cities are a detrimental for healthy living. The precedent of our workspace design needs to be questioned." --Abstract
