Abstract:
"Caravaggio's art is controversial yet fascinating. In his paintings, the combination of dramatic light and a naturalistic style contribute to a strong narrative. Saints look like ordinary people, violence is undisguised, Caravaggio portrays divinity and sainthoods in his own way, which reflects his unique understanding of the relationship between god and man. After three hundred years, the similar motif emerges in works of the 'cyberpunk' genre, only the subjects are human and machine. Cyberpunk is a trending concept in today's creative industry. Though its distinct visual aesthetic may be the most recognizable feature of this genre, the philosophical thinking embedded is also an essential part to the cyberpunk narrative. Learning from Caravaggio, this process book will explore the possibilities of combining Caravaggio's aesthetic with a cyberpunk-themed modeling and look development project by utilizing his artistic approaches to enhance the cyberpunk narrative." --Abstract
