Abstract:
"This thesis will concentrate on using the animated medium to show historically accurate time periods through a personal aesthetic lens. I argue that this is the best medium to use for recreations of historical time periods because of the total artistic control present in the creation of backgrounds, character design, and overall aesthetic. The principles of historical recreation will be explained, primarily in how they relate to background designs in a 2D film. References to films such as 'Kubo and the Two Strings' and 'Hercules', as well as journal articles, will be used to defend this argument. In my personal film, 'Growing', I will interpret a specific historical moment in order to augment the emotional context of the story." --Abstract
