Abstract:
"After the 1800s, with European colonialism, a steady stream of Western culture and clothing began to flow into China, and people began to accept Western cultural influence which affected their lifestyle, this was especially true and flourished mostly amongst the wealthy and intellectual classes. Therefore, Western costumes, such as suits and dresses, which were not only convenient for work but also featured completely new features and designs, became the sought-after objects of people at that time, whilst maintaining the traditional costumes of the Qing Dynasty. Western costumes, combined with traditional Chinese garment influences and traditional tailoring, made the costumes of the Republic of China retain not only their Chinese characteristics but also feature Western influence and characteristics. This thesis and body of research aim to discover and explore the unique features of the Chinese fashion of the Republic of China in conjunction with contemporary women's fashion design ideology taken from a global perspective." --Abstract
