Abstract:
"'Health is a state of body. Wellness is a state of being.'- J. Stanford.
This thesis explores the factors contributing to the holistic wellness of women in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Studies have shown that a higher percentage of Saudi women are facing chronic physical and mental complications in Saudi Arabia. The rise of obesity, depression, and the steep spike in cardiac issues are alarming. Saudi Arabia's cultural & traditional history along with its social and Islamic norms are explored in light of the challenges that Saudi women face in their daily lives. Subsequently, the roles of these factors are explored considering their contribution to the current state of Saudi women's health and their holistic wellness. The thesis results may help further improve the design approach of the built environment for women-centric wellness facilities and provide a new design direction to such initiatives aimed at improving the overall wellness of Saudi Women." --Abstract
