Abstract:
"Mimicry is often times an unconscious behavior people do and goes frequently
unnoticed because it is a natural mannerism. For example, family members sharing the
same type of body language, friends speaking in the same sort of tone, and even nodding
in agreement during an interview. Imitating can be seen as a form of acceptance or
closeness between people. The stronger the relationship, the more people begin to
borrow, or copy, mannerisms and personality traits. These quirks that people share can
also be used in animation to show authentic relationships between characters. This thesis
will focus on how animators can create more realistic acting and enhance the quality of
the performance by incorporating unconscious mimicry."
