Abstract:
"Food waste causes social and environmental problems affecting the quality of life. Grocers have been significant contributors to this thus promoting the spread of food waste. This research paper will focus on offering perspective for the various ways through which interior design can help reduce the problem. Some of the measures discussed include the establishment of food donation areas, enhanced color recognition in interiors, convenient locations for reducing vacancy condition building, and enhanced visual merchandising. The distribution of excess food and donations by stores and supermarkets to low-income neighborhoods will help reduce food waste. Ploeg (2010) indicated that 8.4% of U.S. populations live in low-income areas with limited access to nutritious and affordable food thus causing food dessert-related challenges that ultimately contribute to food waste."
