Abstract:
"Jewelry as a tangible art form allows people to resonate spiritually with the work by pursuing
more than mere beauty. Spiritual expression and communication provide an unlimited space
where contemporary jewelry artists (as well as viewers) can express, perceive and even rethink
their relationship between their inner voice and outside world. Much of the time, spiritual
perception is hard to describe because it is intangible. However, jewelry as an external medium
builds a bridge for viewers to perceive concepts without description by others. Jewelry acts as a
means to define the darkness of human nature and provide a place of introspection amongst viewers. This thesis discusses the spiritual meaning of jewelry by examining the traditional jewelry meaning throughout human history and contextualizing my studio practice in the continuum."
