Abstract:
"This thesis explores motion-based metaphors as the basis of a 'creative' language in motion media, by considering how to deconstruct and reconstruct the day-to-day 'literal' and 'verbal' metaphors, in order to embody and convey meaning in moving images. Audiovisual media is compared with traditional mediums, in order to become a new form for developing 'motion-based metaphors.' The theory of Deconstruction provides a different viewpoint for questioning and exploring the use of metaphors in motion media. This thesis also applies conceptual metaphor theory to film, animation and motion media in order to understand embodied aesthetics and meanings in moving images."
