Abstract:
"This thesis will analyze characters in films in which the protagonist suffers from an
emotional disconnect from the society around them. The source of this disconnect will be a
problem of empathy, either from within the protagonist or the society around them. The
evolution of the journey will reveal how society either enables or hinders emotional growth in
these characters."
