Abstract:
"There are no formal training programs for students pursuing a career as Visual Effects Producer – the business and administrative head of a Visual Effects production. Nevertheless, a solid education in the technical and artistic methodologies for hands-on creation of visual effects, combined with a pursuit of opportunities for experience with collaborative student film projects, may prepare a student to successfully achieve that path. This thesis will analyze how to achieve an understanding of live-action and visual effects integration from the viewpoint of a Producer, by analyzing the functions of the different elements that make up the visual effects pipeline, and the integration of these in elements in creating a finished film project. Based on the author’s personal experience as coordinator and VFX Supervisor of the SCAD student collaborative films, Void, What was Left Behind, Guppy, Kidnapping and Scarecrow, the thesis gives practical examples of workflow and development in relation to the perspective of Visual Effects Production, and demonstrates how such experience can successfully establish a motivated student onto a career path as a Visual Effects Producer."
