Abstract:
"This thesis will analyze the art of female rediscovery in 21st Century Cinema, in
comparison to the submitted thesis script, 'Maternally Yours.' 'Little Miss Sunshine' depicts the art of a family in crisis, perhaps better than any film in history. 'Under the Tuscan Sun' and 'Eat Pray Love' preach the importance of middle-age rediscovery through travel, where the participant
learns something along the way from everyone on that journey. 'To the Bone' and 'Lady Bird' portray teens and early twenty-somethings in a state of confusion and paranoia, in a world changing faster than they can keep up with. Through the inter-generational battles between mother and daughter, both films seek to bring understanding to mental health, angst, and most importantly, figuring out how to move forward as a singular family unit, in the age of technological overload."
Abstract:
Includes the author's original script "Maternally Yours," which explores how a popular but psychologically damaged young social media influencer and her family come to terms -- or not -- with their dysfunctional relationships.
