Abstract:
"This thesis will focus on dramatic lighting in film Noir and how it is perfect for the horror genre. It will focus on three key elements of Film Noir such as low-key lighting, unbalanced compositions and ambiguity to enhance storytelling in horror themed narratives. The three key elements of Film Noir will create a mysterious, dark atmosphere typical to that seen in horror films. It will control how much of the surroundings and characters are revealed. This will not only create specific moods for a film but also what type of moods the characters will take on."
