Abstract:
"This thesis is an explorative look through the thoughts and experiences at
the root of my work. Feelings, emotions, and affect are explored both
personally and formally through theory and contemporary examples as the
work evolves over time. I perseverate. Things turn over and over in my
mind. I repeat ideas, thoughts, scenarios, memories hundreds and
thousands of times. Each idea attached to an emotion, plucked and tugged
as I roll past again and again like petting or self-mutilation. The work is
equal parts punishment and therapy. My work is about emotion. My
repetitive thoughts are transformed into repetitive actions that create
objects. Confusion, pain, denial, fear, and depression are not solved
through the process, but drive it."
