Abstract:
"The generation gap creates communication difficulties between people in any culture. Growing up under a distinctive environment brings diverse values for human beings. Social norms and stereotypes result in bias and interpersonal misunderstandings. However, digital media has accelerated our way of living; Millennials, who were born between 1980 and 1999, are keen on the influence of this technology. Therefore, the speed of their lifestyle has increased in general. However, Baby Boomers, who were born between 1946 and 1964, are adapting to the domination of social media. Both of these groups spend more time on technological conversations, hardly slowing down and genuinely listening to each other or themselves. Yet, storytelling can generate a marvelous opportunity to reconnect this distance and to open up possibilities in solving the 'gap.' Graphic design can play an innovative direction in storytelling by embellishing mutual empathy and advancing intergenerational communication."
