Abstract:
The fashion designer’s job is to identify with the consumer in relation to society as a whole at the time of a collection’s conception. It is with my thesis collection that I have decided to explore this rule. The current mood of the buying public is a somber one due to the economy continuing to plummet. It is hard as a designer to expect consumers today to spend the little disposable income they have left on one-note clothing. Thus with my thesis collection, Convert—The Fashion Bailout, I have decided to focus on convertible clothing and how the consumer is more willing to spend their income on clothing that can be worn in
more than one way. And with the economy continuing to plummet and no sign of it getting better anytime soon, convertibility in design is fashion’s bailout.
