Abstract:
"This paper proposes a series of creative methods that can aid designers experiencing creative rut by expanding their design thinking to include practical methods imported from Photography. For the student novice and the seasoned graphic design veteran, these interventions can stimulate new avenues for exploration. The Reframing intervention offers designers the possibility to generate multiple visual solutions based on an initial concept; while the Polaroid intervention provides designers with less time to think and more time to act when it comes to producing visual directions. Finally, the Decisive Moment intervention aids designers who may feel paralyzed and unable to produce any visual exploration at all. These photographic interventions do not replace a designer’s creative process. Rather, they are set to stimulate the designers’ imagination, breaking through their current mental state, and allowing them to approach visual explorations from different angles."
