Abstract:
"The human sensory system is responsible for obtaining a variety of information streams from the outside world. Sight and sound are two dominant parts of the five senses. Synesthesia is a subjective sensation that creates a correlation between two or more senses. For example, hearing a color or seeing a piece of music would be a form of synesthesia. In the field of Psychology, synesthesia is considered to be a disability. Artists, however, have found relevance in the relationships synesthesia creates between seemingly disparate sensory streams, particularly in sound and vision. This thesis explores the application of synesthetic concepts used by audio-visual artists and includes a personal sound visualization project has been made to utilize those concepts."
